INFO: Airless means there is no air atomizing (breaking up) the paint at the tip. The paint is literally pushed at high pressure through a very small orifice (hole) in the "tip" at the front of the spray gun. An airless sprayer can spray water base latex paints as well as oil based paints providing the machine is thoroughly cleaned and filters / tips have been changed accordingly. The professional painter will have electric sprayers for interior jobs and gas sprayers for exterior jobs when no power outlet is available. Traditionally a gas sprayer will produce more power than an electric model. The maximum tip size provides the painter a gauge to measure the viscosity (thickness) of the paint as well as the potency of the machine. Oil based paints are usually a .013" tip. Any machine with a "max tip size" of .017" can spray oil based paints. Water based acrylic latex paint (house paint) is usually a .017" tip. Elastomeric roof sealer is usually a .031" tip. Therefore if you need to spray elastomeric coating you cannot use a machine that has a "max tip size" of .017". Keep in mind if you need to pump the paint up a few floors or a few hundred feet away; you need to increase the potency of the machine you choose. It is always best to check the paint manufacturers recommended tip size. Airless Spraying is commonly known for painting houses, buildings, walls, driveways and roofs. At Ace Spray we offer airless sprayer rentals and manufacturer authorized repairs since 1980.
